Circle of History

The first WordPress Photo Challenge of 2016 relates to the word “Circle”

Today, let a familiar shape inspire you. With 2016 officially here, we face forward to take on what’s next. It’s a time of endings and beginnings, so I wanted a broad theme that could be simple, fun, and festive, but also complex and introspective. And so, circle it is.

At the start of a new year we sometimes look for signs of change. Some of us make the same resolution that was made in earnest the previous new year, and sadly was never achieved. Some things never change, right?  🙂

The circle I chose is a mosaic that adorns an otherwise plain path that leads to a jetty, at Wynnum, a bayside town close to Brisbane (Australia). The mosaic depicts the story of how the area evolved, through the eyes of the  Nughi, Nunukul and Goenpul clans of Quandamooka — the indigenous people of the area surrounding Wynnum.  It revolves around telling a story, of place, people, time and tide, and the connection to the waters of Moreton Bay. Depicted in a circle format as it shows that the history began and continues — there is no end. As in those unattainable new year’s resolutions, this circle depicts a story that never changes.
